Allergy Season Is Here…

Alright, if you are like me then you suffer from allergies in the summer months. For me, allergy season came early this year. Say hello to itchy eyes, sneezing and stuffy noses. I generally take Sudafed or some other over the counter medicine to relieve my symptoms. Unfortunately I always feel stuffy.

Until my girlfriend introduced me to the neti pot. This little coffee pot contraption really helps clear out the nasal passage. It is so bizarre and hard to explain, watch her review for yourself and you’ll see why I think this is the weirdest yet coolest allergy and cold remedy around.

Looking Good While Flying

As I prepare to hop on a flight tomorrow, I wonder what TSA-friendly beauty products others take with them in their carry-on.

Personally I find Rosebud Salve to be indispensable. I mostly use it as a lip balm, but it can also be used to soothe dry or irritated skin - a common airline traveler’s malady. It comes in a cute tin that won’t raise a red flag with airport security and is way less than the 3oz you are allowed per liquid item. Not sure if this technically qualifies as a liquid, but better safe than sorry when it comes to dealing with the TSA!

What are your favorite under-3-oz items you can’t fly without?

Look Like a Rock Star

I’m excited about a small new line of makeup coming out at Sephora - it’s designed by Kat Von D of L.A. Ink. There are only a few products in the line, but I can’t wait to try them all out - especially the eyeshadow palettes. The colors look great and the package design is gorgeous - it’s apparently inspired by Kat’s favorite tattoo. Looks like this makeup line has a very similar personality and style to the designer. Looking forward to trying out Kat’s cosmetics!

Free Make Up, Well It Is Practically Free!

Every girl who likes make up must check out this site: e.l.f. cosmetic’s website. Apparently, they are going to be selling their cosmetics line at Nordstroms and will be repackaging their products. So, all us lucky ladies can take advantage of the reduced rates — it is the best sale for make up that I have seen in a while. The funny thing is, is that it isn’t even promoted on their site. It is all via word of mouth. They have lip gloss, brush applicators, blush, eye liner, you name it they have it!

I am particularly fond of these cell phone lip gloss charms.

Whether you spend $5 on your face or like to spend hundreds of dollars on make up this is the best deal around. They are practically giving this make up away for free!

Borne Again, Sans Sneezing

I recently attended a wedding in Colorado. My allergies were in full effect prior to the big day, and I was desperate for anything to prevent the allergies from advancing into an actual cold. I had heard mixed reviews of Airborne but decided to give it a try.
Airborne
I’m not sure if the vitamins worked, if the fresh mountain air cured me or if it was just a miracle, but I did start to feel better and the sneezing slowed enough that there were no worries of coordinating a box of Kleenex with my dress at the wedding!

Scar Face

A little over six months ago my arm got cut pretty badly on a piece of broken glass (no interesting story; I’m just clumsy). It was one of those situations where stitches were probably needed but without health insurance it really wasn’t an option..
Mederma
Anyway, now that the skin is starting to grow back, I’m trying to use as much Mederma as possible to avoid much of a scar. A friend suggested I try it after it saved her legs from a heinous case of poison ivy. So far it seems to be working, and that’s a relief!

Hair Today, Gone in a Jiff

The boy in my apartment swears by ZIRH Shave Cream. He typically only shaves once or twice every couple of months, so anything he would use needs to be intense. The formula is specifically made for heavy beards, and it does seem to hold up well on those rare occasions when he breaks out the razor.

I’m not sure why he initially chose to try this particular brand (maybe it looks both manly enough and non-descript enough?), but it does a good job. Extra bonus: added aloe in the formula makes his face super soft afterwards - double score!

Aloe Mint Shaving Cream

I recently decided to try a different shaving cream: Alba’s Aloe Mint Moisturizing Shave Cream. I thought it was just ok. The directions say that it works best when used sparingly, which I did find to be true. But as I shaved my legs with it, it didn’t feel all that smooth. The tube didn’t last all that long, even with my “sparing use”. This stuff costs about $6 and at that price I didn’t think it was worth it. The Aloe Mint smell, however, was really great.

Crest Pro Health

Awhile back I switched from Colgate Total to Crest Pro Health Toothpaste. I have to say, I really do think it does a good job and I like the Clean Mint flavor. It also comes in Cinnamon but I’m not a fan of any toothpaste flavor other than plain old mint. It looks a little sparkly when you squeeze it out of the tube, which makes for a very slightly more fun tooth brushing experience. The toothpaste bubbles up nicely which makes me feel like it’s working - one thing I can’t stand is a toothpaste that doesn’t foam up when you brush.

If you’re in the mood to try a new toothpaste, give Crest Pro Health a whirl. Plenty of ExpoTV members agree with me that it’s good stuff!

Rosemary Mint for Your Hair

One of my favorite hair care products is Aveda’s Rosemary Mint shampoo. The smell is so refreshing in the morning - it’s a nice wake-up call. It leaves my hair feeling really clean and shiny. I’ve also tried the Rosemary Mint conditioner, which I was not so happy with. The conditioner is really thin and doesn’t feel like it does the trick so well, but it’s ok if you want some VERY light conditioning. This ExpoTV member felt exactly the same way I do about these two Aveda products.

aveda

Even though Aveda products are pricier than drugstore beauty items, to me, this shampoo is worth it. And if you buy the giant 33.8 oz bottle at $25 you’ll have a shampoo that lasts forever….plus you can get a free pump!
