Makeup: The Toxic 12 List

The Toxic 12 List has been released to let women know what chemicals to scan for in the ingredients of their makeup. They are composed of harmful chemicals that can either trigger unwanted allergies, irritation or even long term lung disease. Former Miss America-turned-beauty activist Susan Jeske had promoted this Toxic 12 List that women should take note of. Some of these are found in common cosmetics and aesthetic products that can induce harm when used too frequently.
- TOXIC 12 LIST
1. Benzoyl peroxide
2. DEA (diethanolamine) and MEA (monoethanolamine) and TEA (triethanolamine)
3. Dioxin
4. DMDM hydantoin and imidazolidinyl urea
5. Synthetic colors and pigments
6. Parabens (methyl, butyl, ethyl, propyl)
7. FEG (polyethylene glycol)
8. Phthalates 9xenoestrogens)
9. Propylene glycol and butylene glycol
10. Sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate
11. Sunscreen chemicals like avobensone, benzphenone and PABA
12. Triclosan

There are so many toxins in our lives that we cannot avoid. If we can avoid the ones in our beauty products, let’s go for it! I love being able to identify the ingredients in the products I use. My motto is, “If I can’t pronounce it, I won’t use it!”
