President Barack Obama’s “cash-for-clunkers” program expected to begin July 24 with the purpose of jump starting car sales. The initiative gives consumers a $3,500 or $4,500 credit at an auto dealership toward the purchase of a new vehicle when they turn in a low-gas mileage vehicle to be scrapped. The program is intended to replace older cars and trucks with newer, greener models, and the trade-in vehicle has to meet minimum requirements, including not being more than 25 years old and its replacement can’t cost more than $45,000.
Chrysler has set up a website to help you sign up for the program. At http://www.cashforclunkersfacts.com/qualifying-cars/chrysler-dealers
You can complete a form and they will connect you with a Participating Chrysler Dealer who can help you once the bill is passed into law. There is also a list of Chrysler dealers who have committed to deliver an accurate quote based on the current vehicle and the new car that you select.

The only bright spot to the closing of Chrysler dealerships across the country is that they need to unload their product which may result in some steals and deals for car shoppers. Starting from June 9th, Chrysler is expecte to shut down 789 dealerships from the total of 3200 all around the US. The marked dealerships received the bad news May 13th via UPS mail and have the option to appeal in due time.
You may be worried about some aspects of purchasing a Chrysler like your warranty. Your warranty is valid through its term, regardless of where you bought your vehicle. In March, President Obama announced that the U.S. government would provide the backing for Chrysler and GM vehicle warranties under the “Warrantee Commitment Program.”
There will be deals, but if the 44,000 or so cars aren’t sold before June 9, Chrysler will work to redistribute them to other dealers. Approximately 10% of those remaining units are 2008 vehicles so be careful the car you’re looking at hasn’t been sitting on the lot inactive for too long.
So if you are in the market for a new car, go by your local dealer. It can’t hurt to check out the latest deals.

The Nano is being launched today. March 23, 2009. The car will be available in both standard and deluxe versions. Both versions will offer a wide range of body colors, and other accessories so that the car can be customized to an individual’s preferences.
With an expected starting price of about $1,945 for dealers, which doesn’t include a markup and other charges that consumers will pay, the 10.2 foot-long Nano will be one of the world’s cheapest cars.
Its mono-volume design, with wheels at the corners and the power train at the rear, enables it to uniquely combine both space and maneuverability, which will set a new benchmark among small cars.
The Nano has a rear-wheel drive, all-aluminum, two-cylinder, 623 cc, 33 PS, multi point fuel injection petrol engine. This is the first time that a two-cylinder gasoline engine is being used in a car with single balancer shaft.
The Nano’s safety performance exceeds current regulatory requirements. With an all sheet-metal body, it has a strong passenger compartment, with safety features such as crumple zones, intrusion-resistant doors, seat belts, strong seats and anchorages, and the rear tailgate glass bonded to the body.
The Nano’s tailpipe emission performance exceeds regulatory requirements. In terms of overall pollutants, it has a lower pollution level than two-wheelers being manufactured in India today. The high fuel efficiency also ensures that the car has low carbon dioxide emissions, thereby providing the twin benefits of an affordable transportation solution with a low carbon footprint.

Starting this week, Chrysler cars will be available to you at employee prices which are typically thousands of dollars lower than sticker prices. In addition, customers will receive discounts of up to $3,500 on 2009 vehicles and $6,000 on 2008 models. The Dodge Sprinter work van is the only vehicle specifically excluded from the program, according to Chrysler’s announcement. An additional $1,000 rebate is also available on vehicles financed through Chrysler Financial, Chrysler’s financing arm, or through a customer’s local credit union.
These latest incentives come on top of a 0% financing program Chrysler announced last Friday, just hours after the U.S. Treasury Department said it would lend Chrysler Financial $1.5 billion. The 0% offer applies to select Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles for loans of not more than four years.

With the current state of the economy and the auto industry, Hyundai has introduced a new Assurance Program
If you find that you cannot make your payment because of a covered life changing event, we’ll allow you to return your vehicle and walk away from your loan obligation - and in most cases we will cover most, if not all of the difference.
So if you lose your job within 12 months of buying your vehicle and are current on your loan, you can make arrangements with a benefits specialist to return your car to the dealer and walk away from all financial obligations. The program is basically an insurance policy and includes up to $7,500 in protection against negative equity.
Will this start a new trend within the automobile industry? At the least, it calms one of the fears that may have prevented you from purchasing their vehicle and may influence you to buy their product over a competitors.

In the most vain celebration of my own college graduation (Go Coogs!), I wanted to share the best part of ditching the books: smokin’ deals on new cars! Automakers eagerly engage college grads in the hopes that young first-time buyers will remain loyal to their brand later in life. Some deals are sweeter than others. Here’s a rundown of the best.
Suzuki. Everyone knows they make the coolest bikes, but you may not realize that Gixxer DNA is finally finding its way into Suzuki’s car lineup. Suzuki offers the biggest discount for graduates in the business — $1000 — and for a limited time, the rebate can be coupled with 0% financing and about three months’ worth of prepaid gas. Test-drive an SX4. It’s worth your time.
General Motors. You’re bound to find a car to fit your personality at a Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Hummer, Pontiac, Saab, or Saturn dealer. GM’s lineup is broad — and that’s why there’s not one standardized rebate. Instead, graduates pay reduced supplier pricing rates — and get to keep most non-grad incentives, as well.
Ford. How does $500 toward a Mustang sound? In the era of high fuel prices… probably not as nice as $500 toward a 34-mpg Focus with Sync. In any case, the choice is yours — the rebate can be applied to any Ford, Lincoln, or Mercury.
Scion. Toyota’s youthful brand isn’t far behind. Scion buyers get a $400 rebate, pay no money down, and have no monthly payments for 90 days.
Volkswagen. VW buyers don’t get grad cash, but they might be financed here when other manufacturers turn away. The Beetle-builders will finance grads with no credit history — but if you have bad credit, you’re out of luck.
Other manufacturers offer similar programs, and most allow up to two years for graduates to take advantage of these offers. If you’re a recent grad, congratulations. Study hard before your first car purchase, and drop a line if I can be of any help.
Many happy miles,
Adam
